A NHADA Diamond PARTNERUnder current law (RSA 261:20(f)), the DMV is required to collect $20 for each certificate of search of DMV records, including searches conducted to identify owners for towed, impounded, or liened vehicles. The DMV’s new policy brings DSMV 505 requests into compliance with that statute.
Dealers, towing companies, and lienholders will continue to submit requests using the DSMV 505 form, but each request must now be accompanied by the $20 title search fee, whether the vehicle is in-state or out-of-state.
NHADA encourages members who regularly process mechanic’s liens, abandoned vehicles, or similar title-related matters to factor this new cost into their workflows and customer communications beginning January 15.
For questions about the fee or submission process, members should contact the DMV Title Bureau at TITLE@dos.nh.gov or (603) 227-4150 or NHADA at support@nhada.com or 603-224-2369 for assistance.
