National Nurses Week 2019

Happy National Nurses Week!

I have been a Registered Nurse for 28 years.  My career started as a Labor and Delivery Nurse in a small rural hospital in NH working nights.  Ironically my youngest daughter graduates with her BSN this week and she has just accepted her first nursing job as a Labor and Delivery Nurse in a small rural ME hospital working nights; so I guess it runs in the family!  I have been lucky enough to work in many different specialties in my journey as a nurse; from sick babies, laboring moms, substance abuse, psych, cardiac, employee health to my very favorite specialty occupational health and case management.

I started at NHADA WCT as the Nurse Case Manager during nurses week of 2001 and it has been the best career move I ever made.  After discovering Case Management and finding my niche I advanced my license and became a Certified Case Manager.  I currently sit on the Board of Directors of the Case Management Society of New England and was the 2015 recipient of the Case Manager of the Year for New England.  My next endeavor is advancing my license again to become a Certified Occupational Health Nurse Specialist; so studying has replaced Netflix and I hope to sit for that credentialing in the next few months.

Working at NHADA is like working with your family.  I have been here through many changes in my life and my daughters grew up with me working here; they were 3 and 5 when I started; wow how time flies.  Looking back on my nursing career so far; I wouldn’t change a thing.

It’s more than a job; nursing it is a lifestyle.
