On December 22, 2025, the FTC sent letters to 10 companies warning them of potential violations of the Consumer Reviews and Testimonials Rule that took effect on October 21, 2024. The FTC did not disclose which companies received the letter.
The Consumer Reviews and Testimonials Rule sets strict standards that prohibit fake reviews, require disclosing when reviews are posted by employees (and their families), and ban both offering rewards in exchange for positive ratings and suppressing honest consumer reviews.
NADA developed Frequently Asked Questions to help dealerships comply with the Rule. Dealers should continue reviewing the FAQs and the Rule with their employees.
